Dawn Brewer is the founder of Word on the Street Bookshop in Ashtead, Surrey. Before pursuing her lifelong dream of bookselling, Dawn spent nearly 40 years working as a specialist oncology nurse.

After attending a course on how to run a bookshop, she and a group of local shareholders transformed a shuttered charity shop into a vibrant literary hub, which officially opened in March 2022. Deeply rooted in the community, Dawn’s welcoming shop is celebrated for its diverse stock, thoughtful staff recommendations and great books! In addition to book sales, Dawn organises a regular flow of author events both in the shop and in the local village hall.
