Hanna Latif-Walmsley is the founder and CEO of Laika Family, a Manchester-based pet tech start-up. She launched the business after a terrifying incident where water leaked into an electrical socket in her flat, leaving her panicked about the safety of her rescue dog, Winnie, if a fire had broken out.
Laika Family develops innovative pet safety technology to protect animals in domestic emergencies. Its flagship product, the Laika Smart Module, mounts to a home’s exterior and listens for fire alarm frequencies. If triggered, it activates a high-visibility, paw-shaped LED beacon to alert first responders to trapped pets. Supported by accelerators like NatWest and Bruntwood SciTech, Latif-Walmsley is bridging the gap between innovation and emergency services to ensure much-loved pets are never invisible in a crisis.
